OPIQ Program Documentary

Optimizing Performance to Improve Quality, UCSF

South Africa

OPIQ South Africa was a multi-year, multi-region large scale quality improvement initiative. It sought to improve engagement with HIV services specifically focussed on retention in care and medication adherence. Using interviews with staff and project footage, we put together an eight minute film that explained the project, outlined the achievements, and highlighted the impact of the project.

Pareto Principle Whiteboard Video

Optimizing Performance to Improve Quality, UCSF

South Africa

A whiteboard video can help to explain a complex or technical concept in a way that is relatable and accessible. With OPIQ South Africa we used a whiteboard video to explain the concept of the Pareto Principle and how it can be used in an HIV quality improvement initiative.

Theatrical Vignettes

East Africa Preterm Birth Initiative - UCSF

Kigali, Rwanda

As part of their annual symposium, we put together four theatrical vignettes that were formed in between conference presentations. Working with qualitative interview data, we crafted the scripts, identified three fantastic local actors through our network, rehearsed and produced the performances with music and sound. It was a reflective moment for participants to put away their laptops and really listen to the stories of mothers of preterm babies.

OPIQ Spotlight: Men's Health Iniative

Optimizing Performance to Improve Quality, UCSF

South Africa

To celebrate the work of the QI facility champions and to spread the effective ideas from one region to others facing similar challenges, we put together short films that explain the problem the change was address, outline the change itself, and describe the impact it had on the facility and the patient population.

Preterm Birth Monologues

East Africa Preterm Birth Initiative, UCSF

Women Deliver Conference  - Vancouver, Canada

We turned qualitative research data from several researchers at UCSF into two to three minute monologues. We then hired local actors in the San Francisco Bay area and had the monologues professionally recorded. They were then played as part of an interactive booth at the Women Deliver Conference .

Change Idea Spotlights

Optimizing Performance to Improve Quality, UCSF

South Africa

Through a large-scale quality improvement initiative, we worked with QI champions at healthcare facilities to document their work in a one page front-and-back spotlight. The spotlight explained an effective change idea, presented data on its impact, and gave step-by-step instructions so other facilities could implement the idea in their own contexts.

The Midwife Monologues

PRONTO International

Women Deliver Conference

Vancouver, CA

PRONTO International trains midwives all over the world in obstetrical and neonatal skills-building. We worked with them to interview midwives on their experiences and turn those interviews into a series of monologues to be presented as part of their break-out session at the conference. We found three Vancouver-based actresses, rehearsed with them for three days, and then produced the performance as part of the session.
